Marondera Children's Library Book Drive
My birthday is coming up and, as you've already seen from the title, I'm doing a book drive. This is totally different from how I normally celebrate this special day (alone, with my favourite snacks and movies). While I enjoy my own company, several life events have moved me to use my birthday for something outside myself.
One such event was a visit to my local children's library. It brought back such wonderful (and awkward) memories of storytimes, Enid Blyton binges and nightmares after stubbornly reading Goosebumps. Each book was like a portal into a different world where anything was possible and my mistakes didn't have earth-shattering consequences. Reading was oxygen, books a fortress.
You can imagine my heartache, then, when my visit uncovered just how cruel reality had been to this childhood haven. The same books were on the shelves, barely hanging on by a literal thread. New books were so few and far between. The pristine tables betrayed a lack of playdough, crayons and other art supplies that tend to liberate a child's creativity.
So I've taken matters into my own hands. With your help, I'd like to donate some children's books and art supplies to the library. I think every child needs a chance to explore new worlds through literature and learn the necessary skill of self-expression through art and the written word.
Please consider donating a storybook for children aged 3 to 14, as well as art supplies such as crayons, sketch paper, pencils, pencil colours, playdough etc. You're also welcome to make a financial donation should you feel called to do so. Contact details are on the flyer. Alternatively, please DM on Instagram @tapiwanashe36.
Thank you so much, and may God bless you abundantly.
